PINCONNING — If there's one thing that never seems to change, it's the dominant nature of the Fairview girls track and field team.
The Eagles showed they'll once again be a force to be reckoned with as they ran to a 50-point victory in the eight-team Mio AuSable Invitational on Friday, scoring 142.8 points to second-place Pinconning's 95.4
AuGres-Sims showed some early-season promise as well, finishing third with 88. Rogers City (88), Whittemore-Prescott (66), Posen (34), Hillman (31) and Mio (26.8) round out the field.
Fairview was led by standout junior Tia Rogers, a triple-state qualifier last season who won three events and took second in another to earn meet MVP honors on Friday. Rogers won the long jump (14-11), 100 hurdles (18.05) and 100 dash (13.65) while taking second to Posen's Purol (28.86) in the 200.
Fairview also got wins in the distance medley relay, from Kendra Handrich in the pole vault (meet record 8-6), and Camille Szubelak in the 800 (2:39.29).
Pinconning was led by a strong contingent of distance runners. In the 4x800 relay, Emily Podgorniak, Alyssa Schlink, Samantha Szeszulski and Jessica Vidalez took first with a time of 11:46.33. Vidalez later turned in the area's top run of the season in the 3200 (12:38.89) while Arianna Alexander won the 400 (1:06.98). Podgorniak and Szeszuslki also took the third and fourth spots in the 1600. Rebecca Vance was second in the high jump, Sadie McGillen took third in the pole vault and Devyn Podsiadlik took third in the shot put. Sadie McGillian, Shannon McDougall, Vidalez, and Alexander finished the day with a second-place finish in the 4x400 (4:48.61).
AuGres-Sims' Emily Lutz set a meet record in the shot put with a toss of 32-6 and took second in the discus (80-9).
Other top finishers for the Wolverines included the 4x800 relay team of Anita Rollins, Adriane Swaffield, Kadie Kachmaryk andKelsey Heinrich (2nd, 12:18.79); Brandi Willett in the high jump (3rd, 4-3); Adriane Swaffield in the 100 hurdles (3rd, 20.49); Sarah McGuire, Lyndsay Morrison, Rollins, and Shelby Schwiderson in the 4x200 (2nd 2:04.72); Henrich in the 3200 and the 4x400 relay team of Swaffield, Kachmaryk, Morrison and Rollins (3rd, 4:53.10).
Whittemore-Prescott's winners were Larrissa McGeathy in the discus (87-9); Snowy DeCaen, Billie Jo Klimaszewski, Shelby Karasch and Victoria Doebler in the 4x100 (58.86); and Staci Ostrander, Madison Matuszak, Doebler and DeCaen in the 4x400 (4:47.19).
Other top finishers for W-P included the distance medley relay; McGeathy in the shot put (2nd, 29-10); Doebler in the 100 (3rd, 14.18); and Ostrander in the 800 (3rd, 2:50.35).
