A map of Hispaniola shows a star on Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where Tyrna arrived on Jan. 21.

WEST BRANCH — West Branch native Stephanie Tyrna in currently in Haiti with Adventures in Missions (AIM), an interdenominational missions organization, to aid in distributing food and water to Haitians whose lives were rocked by the Jan. 12 earthquake.

“I am part of the small team that is the first to go from AIM. They are sending out our team to meet immediate physical needs and gather information for the groups to come in the next weeks, months and years. I have no idea what I will see or go through and I am at peace with that,” Tyrna posted on her online blog tephanietryna.worldrace.org.

I have no problem with people helping other people in times of need. I just wonder WHY when country's with mostly white populations are devastated there is no giant drive to help those country's. You do not see people singing for them, having donation shows on t.v, cell phone donations etc. Only if its Africa or a poor black country. Why is this?

Tribal Superman, name me a country with a mostly white population that has had devastation that we have not helped. You are way off base here.

Tribal Superman, oh, you are referring to the 2009 earthquake in L'Aquila. The American Red Cross is the group that sent $50,000, not Obama. After the quake, Italy's Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi refused foreign aid. Here is a quote from the BBC:

"Mr Berlusconi has refused foreign aid, saying Italians were 'proud people' and had sufficient resources to deal with the crisis."

Perhaps you should get your information from more reputable sources than hate groups.

So what does that change? Italy Refuses the money...so that makes the media outpouring and money grabbing okay in this situation. See you fail to see the big picture. I personally would not send a penny I found on a street to Haiti. People in America are living in TENTS, losing their houses cars and lives. SO yeah I think its complete crap that the media has fallen in love with a people who murder rape and kill each other. They have NO class what so ever. Just by watching youtube it makes me want to vomit how these people treat each other in a crisis. Yes Italy is a proud people and they did not start acting like complete idiots after the disaster. Again why send a penny to people who cant help themselves..and even if they could would never lift a hand to help others.

Again good luck with your donation.
