Candidates running for township board positions, county commissioner seats, sheriff and state representative were all present at the Skidway Lake Chamber of Commerce’s candidate forum held at the chamber hall Oct. 17. Each candidate was given three minutes to introduce him or herself, and then forum moderator read questions for the candidates submitted by citizens in attendance. Many of the questions were directed at State Rep. Bruce Rendon, R-Lake City, and his opponent Lon Johnson, D-Kalkaska. These questions were mostly focused on education cuts and restoring education funding, and taxes on pensions. Several questions were also asked of the five candidates in attendance who are seeking township positions, and the majority of these questions were in regards to township expenditures and transparency. About 45 people, not counting candidates and the moderator, were in attendance.
