WEST BRANCH — The Board of Commissioners approved placing a $1 surcharge increase for 911 services and 0.3-mill operating millage renewal for Ogemaw County Transit on the November ballot during its Aug. 23 meeting.
The 911 surcharge was approved 5-2, with commissioners Pete Hennard and Bruce Reetz voting no. The transit millage was approved unanimously.
If approved by voters, the monthly per-phone surcharge to fund 911 would increase from 59 cents to $1.59 for county residents. The surcharge is expected to raise about $200,000 in its first year.
Ogemaw County voters turned down a 0.5-mill millage for 911 in the August primary, 1,955 no votes to 1,444 yes votes.
The transit millage is a renewal of the current operating millage. If approved, it would raise about $240,000 in its first year.
Check back later for more details on both ballot initiatives.
