Four to be honored at second annual Shine On Awards
WEST BRANCH — For the second year, the Tolfree Foundation will honor those who have “changed our lives forever” at its annual Shine On Awards ceremony Dec. 6.
Tolfree Foundation Director Cynthia Longchamps said the Shine On Awards are for celebrating the past and illuminating the future.
“The recipients of our Shine On Awards are not only incredible men and women who made or are making history, but are also the people remarkably like us all,” Longchamps said. “They work hard, struggle with balance, and dream of a better world. We applaud them for the extraordinary ways they have shared themselves to benefit others.”
Longchamps said the hope is that by honoring past achievements, the Tolfree Foundation can inspire selfless giving by others in the community in the future.
Four people or groups will be honored at this year’s awards ceremony, according to Longchamps.
The Bash Family Foundation will receive the Grand Angel Philanthropic Award. That award is based on the largest contribution given by a major donor.
George Schaiberger Sr. will be honored posthumously with the Physician Extraordinaire Award. Schaiberger was chosen based on his longevity in health care service to the community and his outstanding reputation.
Laura Prescott will receive the Patient’s Physician Choice Award. The recipient is chosen by patients from 45 physicians’ offices in northeast Michigan, with Prescott receiving the majority of the 680 votes that were cast. This is the first year for this award.
Finally, Kent Davison will receive the Grand Angel Volunteer Award, which is based on years of volunteer service to the John Tolfree Health System and the community.
Longchamps said the ceremony is open to the public. The cost is $75 per person or $145 for a couple. Black tie is optional. The event will be held at the Willow Tree Restaurant in West Branch. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. and run until about 9 p.m.
“The proceeds of this event go toward the development of the Health and Wellness Campus,” Longchamps said.
