OGEMAW COUNTY — Recall language has again been filed against West Branch-Rose City school board member Mike Eagan, alleging he is violating WB-RC bylaws.

John Janczewski of Cumming Township, who claims Eagan supported convicted sex-offender Neal Erickson when he sat with Erickson’s family during his sentencing in July, filed the language. Janczewski Is the father of the victim, who was a WB-RC student at the time the crime occurred.

Janczewski gives two reasons for the recall.

“1. Michael Eagan has violated two West Branch-Rose City school board bylaws by compromising the board and it’s (sic) district’s staff and putting himself in a position of bias and favoritism,” the language states. “2. Michael Eagan is married to West Branch-Rose City teacher Amy Huber-Eagan, which presents a clear and defined conflict of interest as stated in Michigan State Senate Bill 1051 and our local school bylaws.”

A clarity and factual hearing will be held Tuesday, Aug. 27, at 10 a.m. in the Commissioners Chambers in the Ogemaw County Building.

This is the second time Janczewski has filed recall language against Eagan. The Ogemaw Election Commission rejected previous language Aug. 6, saying it was not factual or of sufficient clarity.

If the language is approved, Janczewski will have 60 days to collect 2,058 signatures. The signed petitions must be turned in within 180 days of the language’s approval for the issue to be placed on the ballot.

The election commission includes Probate Court Judge Shana Lambourn, County Treasurer Dwight McIntyre and County Clerk Gary Klacking.
