Recall language filed against Eagan for third time
Two separate petitions filed by Janczewskis
OGEMAW COUNTY — Recall language has been filed against West Branch-Rose City school board member Mike Eagan, this time in the form of two separate recall petitions from Lori and John Janczewski.
Prior recall language against Eagan filed by John Janczewski was rejected Aug. 6 and Aug. 27. The Janczewskis have been attempting to recall Eagan because he sat with the wife of convicted sex offender Neal Erickson at Erickson’s sentencing in July. The Janczewskis are the parents of the victim.
Eagan’s wife also was one of several West Branch-Rose City teachers who wrote the court letters requesting leniency for Erickson.
Lori Janczewski states that her reason for wanting to recall Eagan is because of his support for the teachers who wrote the letters.
“We the people of Ogemaw County, wish to recall Mike Eagan, an elected school board official,” the recall language states. “He publicly supported the teachers who wrote letters requesting leniency for Neal Erickson, a teacher and convicted pedophile, who sexually assaulted a student.”
John Janczewski targets Eagan’s seating choice at the sentencing as his reason for recall.
“Mike Eagan, a WB-RC district school board member, sat in court July 10, 2013 on the side of Neil (sic) Erickson, a convicted child molester of a student, with the teachers who wrote letters of leniency for Neil (sic) Erickson,” the language states. “These teachers included Mike Eagan’s wife, Amy Huber Eagan.”
A hearing will be held in front of the Ogemaw County Election Commission to determine the clarity of the language, and whether it is factual, Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 9:45 a.m. in the commissioner’s chambers at the Ogemaw County Building. The hearing is open to the public.
The Ogemaw County Election Commission includes Ogemaw County Clerk Gary Klacking, county Treasurer Dwight McIntyre and Probate Court Judge Shana Lambourn.
