SKIDWAY LAKE — It will be a day of canoeing, redneck games and good times when the Skidway Lake Chamber of Commerce hosts its second Redneck Regatta Saturday, July 28.

Chamber member Judy Knyzewski said the regatta gets started at 10 a.m. with a canoe trip from Kenneth Drive to the Cole Canoe Base.

“Everybody will meet at Smar Park, and then they’ll leave from there,” she said. “They’ll be shuttled from there to the landing.”

The canoe trip is a race and will give canoeing partners the chance to earn points, which will be tallied up at the end of the Redneck Regatta, Knyzewski said.

“It’s a fun race,” she said. “It’s going to be like a scavenger hunt along the way. There’ll be stuff hanging from the bushes that say ‘Redneck Regatta,’ and they’ll get points for grabbing that.”

Cleaning up the Rifle River along the way will also help teams earn points, Knyzewski said.

“They’ll be picking up trash along the river, and get points for that,” she said.

After the canoe trip wraps up, a bus from Cole Canoe Base will shuttle people back to the park. Knyzewski said back at the park, the top three teams with the most trash collected and the most points from scavenger hunt items will receive trophies.

“Trophies will be given out there,” she said. “Food will be available there, and the games will be out there.”

The games will be redneck games, Knyzewski said. A popular one returning is redneck horseshoes, which has players trying to toss a toilet seat around a plunger fixed to the ground, she said.

Registration for the Redneck Regatta is $30 per pair of canoers. That price includes a canoe for the trip, T-shirts, and one hot dog and beverage apiece. For more information, call 989-873-4411.
