Three injured in head-on collision near county line

Two transferred to other hospitals with serious injuries


WEST BRANCH — Three people were injured in a two-vehicle head-on crash that occurred on West M-76 Thursday afternoon, but the injuries are not expected to be fatal according to Ogemaw County Sheriff’s Deputy Joseph Adams.

The accident occurred around 12:30 p.m. and involved a box van and a minivan.

Adams told the Herald the driver of the van was taken to West Branch Regional Medical Center and transferred to Ascension Healthcare in Saginaw for serious injuries. A passenger in the truck was taken to WBRMC and transferred to MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland with serious injuries.

“When I arrived on scene, the cab of the truck and box were fully engulfed,” Adams said. “The driver of the truck was able to exit the truck without injuries. He and a passerby were able to pull the passenger of the truck out.”

Adams said the passenger did sustain some burns on his legs. He also went to WBRMC for treatment.

M-55 was closed to traffic while emergency personnel attended to those involved in the accident, and Adams said he expected the road to remain closed for a couple additional hours Thursday afternoon while Michigan State Police accident reconstructionists investigated.the road was reopened at approximately 6 p.m., according to Adams.

No names have been released at this time, and no further information is known about the identities of those involved.

The cause of the accident is unknown.
