PRESCOTT — Area residents will have a chance to have their voices heard by local candidates at the Skidway Lake Chamber of Commerce’s Candidate’s Night Oct. 18.

According to Dr. Daniel Greene, who will serve as moderator for the night, the forum will be held at the chamber building, at 2777 Greenwood Rd. in Prescott, starting at 7 p.m. and doors opening around 6 p.m.

“We have most of the local candidates confirmed to appear,” Greene said.

Greene said those confirmed so far include Michigan House of Representatives 103rd district candidates incumbent Bruce Rendon and Lon Johnson, Ogemaw County sheriff candidates incumbent Howie Hanft and Scott Colclasure, Ogemaw County Board of Commissioners District Four candidates incumbent John West and Brenda Simmons, Mills Township treasurer candidates Brenda Eymer and incumbent Dona Emerson and Mills Township trustee candidates Greg Colton, incumbent Ethel Hight and April Harkey-Mason.

He said Michigan 4th Congressional District candidate Debra Wirth has indicated she will be present and incumbent Dave Camp has been invited as well.

For the format of the night, Greene said residents who attend will receive a piece of paper to write any questions, either general or for specific candidates, when they walk into the chamber. He said those questions will then be placed in a box and will be randomly drawn and answered by the candidates once each candidate completes their three-minute period where they can say “whatever they want to say.”

“It’s going to be a lot larger than I anticipated,” Greene said. “It’s refreshing to see so many of the candidates are willing to come to this event and answer questions from the community.”

He said there will be refreshments served throughout the night and he hopes as many people as possible make it out for the event.

“Hopefully, we’ll get a huge turnout,” Greene said. “This is a perfect opportunity for anyone who has questions to come out and have the candidates answer those questions they have.”
