WEST BRANCH — The former Ogemaw County Humane Society manager had court dates set for a status conference and a final pretrial in 34th Circuit Court Aug. 8.
Laura Dean of West Branch appeared before Circuit Court Judge Michael Baumgartner for a pretrial conference Wednesday. She is scheduled for a status conference at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, with a final pretrial at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 5.
Baumgartner told the court that if no agreement could be reached by that time, Dean’s case would go to trial after the first of the year.
Dean has been charged with embezzlement of more than $1,000 and less than $20,000 from a nonprofit organization, a felony charge. She was arraigned March 1.
Iosco County Prosecutor Gary Rapp is serving as the special prosecutor in the case.
Dean’s attorney told the court that more time was needed to go through discovery materials. Dean has waived her right to a speedy trial.
