WEST BRANCH TWP. — Two Alger men were arrested and charged with larceny Sept. 11 after allegedly staging a fake robbery at the West Branch Wendy’s restaurant.
According to Ogemaw County Prosecutor LaDonna Schultz, Anthony Ronald Ashe, 21, and Ryan Anthony Demand, 22, both of Alger, have been charged with larceny, more than $1,000, less than $20,000, a felony. They face up to five years in jail and/or $10,000 or five times the amount of the property stolen.
Schultz said $1,058 was reportedly taken from the restaurant.
Schultz said the call originally went out over the radio as a robbery at around 10:30 p.m. Sept. 11, but after questioning the suspects, police reportedly determined it was an inside job.
Both suspects were arraigned in 82nd District Court Sept. 12.
Schultz said Demand was reportedly a manager at the restaurant, and Ashe is a former employee.
No further information is available at this time.
