WHITTEMORE — The Whittemore-Prescott school board voted unanimously July 9 to hire Kim Clemens to serve in a business manager role.

Clemens’ contract calls for a $27,000 salary. Superintendent Ted Matuszak said this salary is about $10,000 below the salary of former business manager, Penny Spencer, who retired at the end of the 2011-12 school year.

Board members had discussed replacing the business manager position with a secretary who would perform some business manager duties, but said during the July 9 meeting that the salary, not the title, was the bigger concern.

“We had discussed it being a secretarial position, bit really what we’re talking about is schematics of the title,” said Board Vice President Chris Daniels.

The board also approved several duties for the business manager during the meeting. The business manager was designated as being responsible for posting public notices, handling election duties and working with the superintendent to invest and deposit school monies.

Matuszak said the business manager is not a union position.

“It falls under an administrator’s contract,” he said.

Clemens’ contract also called for a full-family insurance plan.

The board also approved hiring a new transportation director during the meeting. Board members unanimously approved a contract for Tammy Newman-Faulkner. Her salary will be $23,000 and her contact includes single-subscriber insurance plan.
