Barbara Jean (Urda) Childs, 77, passed away peacefully at home in Lapeer Oct. 23, 2017, after a patient and tenacious battle with cancer. The love of her life, Douglas Childs, was by her side.

She was a loving mother and grandmother and an accomplished porcelain artist. She was a member of the Dearborn Porcelain Artists Guild, Flint Porcelain Artist Guild, and World Organization of China Painters. She thoroughly enjoyed gifting her art to family, friends and other charities.

Barbara and Douglas shared nearly 57 years of a love-story marriage. They raised three children in Detroit and later at Elbow Lake in Prescott. Besides Douglas, she is survived by her children, Julianne Leonard of Lapeer, Gordon Childs of Wolcott, Conn., and his wife Shirley Samy Childs, and Margaret Cline of Prescott and her husband Brian Cline. She leaves behind her grandchildren, Shanna, Chase, Marina and Chance Leonard, Douglas Schmittling, Yasmine and Anika Childs, Brett Cline and Tara Herbert.

She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Rae Clair Cline; and her sister, Patricia (Urda) Roos.

She will be truly missed by her best friend and sister-in-law, Diane Cowart; as well as sisters-in-law, Gail Morris and Mary-Ellen Klein; and cousins, nieces and nephews in both the Urda and Childs families.

Her illness never interfered with her care and dedication to her family.

There are no calling hours and the funeral will be private. It was Barbara’s wish to have friends and family remember her in a celebration of life at a later date.
