Fox receives 2018 Peg Runyan Award

WEST BRANCH — Excitement filled the air at Field 4 of the West Branch Little League Fields the evening of June 19 as 13-year-old Jorja Fox received the Peg Runyan Award.

Every year the Peg Runyan Award is given to the softball player who exhibits sportsmanship and ability on the field, in honor of former Ogemaw Heights softball coach Peg Runyan, who coached from 1976-1986.

Jorja was also named Best Defensive Player, and her parents Will and Johnna Fox were there to watch her receive both awards.

“I couldn’t be any prouder than I am right now with all the hard work and dedication she’s put into this,” Will said. “It’s beyond belief.”

Jorja said she has been playing softball since she was around 5 years old.

“It’s my favorite sport,” she said. “I have fun doing it.”

Will said his daughter also participates in a travel team and All Stars every year.

Jorja offered advice to anyone younger to work hard.

“Always practice and try your hardest,” Jorja said.

In addition to softball, Jorja said she also plays volleyball.

Maleah Rachow and Addison Ludwig were also named Best Offensive Players June 19.
