No major injuries in Business Loop accident

WEST BRANCH — A two-car accident occurred on the Business Loop/M-76 in front of the Glen's Market parking lot in West Branch Dec. 7, but no major injuries were reported.

According to the accident report completed by the West Branch City Police Department, Verna Gillette of Mio was driving a 1999 Ford Windstar when she reportedly tried to make a lefthand turn out of the Glen’s parking lot, allegedly pulling out in front of Christina Ignacio of West Branch, who was heading south on the Business Loop in her 2005 Mercedes Benz.

The report states Ignacio slammed on her brakes, leaving a 20-foot-long skid mark, but collided with Gillette’s van, with the impact rolling the van onto its roof.

Gillette was able to escape the van, but her passenger, Jo Anne Pope of Hale, had to be removed from the vehicle by the Ogemaw County Fire Department and Ogemaw County EMS.

Gillette and Pope reportedly only suffered minor injuries, but Ignacio suffered a broken ankle from slamming on her brakes.

The Ogemaw County Sheriff's Office assisted the EMS, fire department and city police at the scene.
