Robert Anthony McGrail Sr., 95, passed away Feb. 25, 2018, at The Brook surrounded by his family.

Bob was born Aug. 22, 1922, in Bloomington, Ill., to Richard and Mary Ellen (McGlone) McGrail. He lived in West Branch since 1966, previously of Portland, Ore., and Detroit. Bob graduated from the University of Detroit in 1947 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy. He owned and operated Morris Tax Service from 1974-1989. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and life member of Knights of Columbus Council 2022. Bob also was a past treasurer of the Red Cross for more than 10 years, and past treasurer of the Kiwanis for two years. He was a World War II veteran with the 66th Infantry Division, receiving a Bronze Star.

Bob is survived by his children, Robert A. (Cheryl) McGrail Jr. of West Branch, Jane (Michael) Leither of Farmington Hills, Richard McGrail of Chicago, Ill., and John McGrail of Cleveland, Ohio; and stepchildren, Barbara (Michael) Dabrowski of Pinconning, Laurie (Steve) Kimball of West Branch, Kathleen (Chris) Sheltrown of Alger and Jeffrey Baird of West Branch. He has 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane; second wife, Margaret; two brothers, Charles McGrail and the Rev. John McGrail, S.J.; and three sisters, Catherine Rae, Margaret Elizabeth Orvis and Martha Jane McGrail.

Visitation for Bob will be held Thursday, March 1, 2018, from 3-9 p.m. at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch. A rosary and vigil service will take place Thursday evening starting at 6 p.m. His funeral will be Friday, March 2, 2018, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with visitation starting at 10 a.m. Father Patrick Maher will officiate.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph School Endowment Fund or Hospice of Helping Hands.
