Annual Fine Arts Show to showcase local talent

WEST BRANCH — The West Branch Creative Arts Association is giving residents the chance to admire some artwork, much of it local, at its 41st annual Fine Arts Show.

The artwork will be on display for approximately four weeks, from June 29 to July 20, at the Fourth Street Gift Shop and Gallery in West Branch.

This year 19 artists entered their works. Association Chairwoman Patricia Riegle said they hail from as far away as Livonia to the south and Gaylord to the north, with several Ogemaw County residents participating as well.

There is a total of 61 pieces from these artists, many following the chosen theme of silhouettes. The works were set to be juried June 25 by gallery owner Kim Kleinhardt of Clare. Awards will be given for best of show in theme and best of show in general, along with several honorable mentions.

During the show, members of the public will get to have their own say in which piece is their favorite, as they can vote toward the People’s Choice Award while at the gallery.

The awards will be presented at the annual Fine Arts Show Reception July 14 at 1 p.m. The arts association will also be presenting this year’s scholarship at the reception, a $1,000 award to Ogemaw Heights Salutatorian Reese Temple to help toward her goal of studying to be an art teacher. The public is welcome to attend the reception.

Riegle said the association’s mission is to promote the arts, and it is able to do that and raise money for its scholarships through events like this, along with the Youth Art Show, art and wine walks, Victorian Art Fair and more.

The gallery is open for viewing from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
