Contractors to begin repaving North Second parking lot July 17

WEST BRANCH — After approximately five years of disrepair the parking lot on North Second Street will be repaved beginning July 17.

According to West Branch Department of Public Works Manager Mike Killackey, Mid Michigan Asphalt notified him of availability in its schedule, which resulted in short notice to the public.

Killackey estimates the parking lot to be more than 15 years old and he said for the past five years the city has been putting cold patches on the lot on a monthly basis.

According to Killackey, the approximate cost to remove the existing asphalt and install new asphalt is approximately $40,000 and he anticipates the work will be completed July 19, pending weather delays.

In the meantime, Killackey said the public will have to park on the street or park in the lot on North Third Street until the parking lot is reopened.
