Joan C. (Tomich) Wiltfong

Died July 11, 2019

Joan C. (Tomich) Wiltfong, 74, died at McLaren Bay Region with family at her bedside. She was a resident of Prescott since 1992, formerly living in Flint for 30 years.

Joan was born in Bay City on Oct. 26, 1944. Her official occupation was a cosmetologist, but she was a jack of all things: she was an avid seamstress, and baked and decorated wedding cakes. Joan received her GED in 1985 after her daughters graduated from high school themselves. She retired from Dollar General in 2013 after working 10 years in retail and making many new friends with her customers.

She had many special interests such as playing cards, bowling, gambling (loved the slots), flower gardens and chasing the ever-elusive morel mushrooms. But nothing brought her more joy than her family, children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, then the great-grandchildren. She had a way about her with children, like the baby whisperer; she could calm a crying baby with ease.

She married the love of her life, Donald Wiltfong, Aug. 11, 1962, and they had 31 wonderful years together before he died unexpectedly in 1993. She is the mother of two daughters, Tina (Ron) Wiltfong-Sesler of Prescott and Donna (Darrin) Wiltfong-Wilson of Prescott.

She has eight grandchildren, Bryan (Stacy) Sesler, Douglas Sesler, James (Alicia) Sesler, Melissa (Jeremy) Elliott, Darrin Jr. (Katie) Wilson and Kayla (Billy) Raushi. She has 11 great-grandchildren who brought great joy into her life, Devin, Logan, Cassidy, Aiden and Zoey Sesler, Mason and Brody Elliott, Jett and Jack Wilson and Addison and Reed Raushi.

She also had a way of “adopting” children along the way that all called her “Granny” regardless of any blood relation.

She has lots of nieces, nephews and cousins, way too many to list completely, whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Tomich, Marjorie Tomich-Sesler and stepfather Donald Sesler; siblings, Donald Klopf, Joseph Tomich, Judy Lee and Marjorie Devault; nephews, Donnie Ziembo and Jack Klopf; and great-granddaughter, Bristol Elliott.

Visitation will be at the Buresh Funeral Home Prescott Chapel on Tuesday, July 16, at 11 a.m. Her final resting place will be Richland Township Cemetery.
