Kristin Fest Cornhole Tournament to raise scholarship funds

Posted

WEST BRANCH — The late Kristin Provoast will be remembered in a couple ways at the third annual Kristin Fest Cornhole Tournament May 18, as the event will raise funds for scholarships and provide an enjoyable time like she would have loved.

“(Kristin) always enjoyed getting together with friends and family,” said Michelle Parliament, a member of the organizing committee. “Every year it has grown and spread even to people who didn’t know her and who she was, and shown how she liked to interact with friends and family and have a good time.”

Parliament said last year around 70 teams participated, and this year registration will be limited to 100 teams.

Teams will vie for a first-place prize of $250 and second-place prize of $125. Even failure will have some reward, as the first team to lose will have its registration fee refunded.

The event will also feature 50-50s, a gun raffle and drawings for prizes including AirPods, a propane fireplace, a GoPro package, a camping package and more.

Parliament said proceeds from the tournament go to the Kristin Marie Provoast Memorial Scholarship Fund.

“(Kristin) was a mother to three kids, loved doing hair, and loved continuing her education too,” she said, explaining that Kristin had received her massage and LPN licenses, and had just finished her schooling to be a registered nurse.

This year the plan is to give two $1,000 scholarships to Ogemaw Heights students going into a field of public service, which includes fields such as cosmetology and nursing.

Registration is $30 per team. Online registration is open until Thursday, May 16, at 5 p.m., and registration will also be open the day of the event from noon to 1 p.m. The link for online registration is available by clicking “Tickets” on the “3rd Annual Kristin Fest Cornhole Tournament” Facebook event page.

The event will take place at 1 p.m. at the Ogemaw County Fairgrounds. For more information, call Parliament at 989-343-0648.
