Man seriously injured in reported shooting, suspect in custody


WEST BRANCH TWP. — A 44-year-old West Branch man was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after he was reportedly shot around 6 p.m. at a residence near the corner of Maes and Fairview roads in West Branch Aug. 14.

The Ogemaw County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the situation leading up to the shooting. Detective Dave Stahl Jr. said the 48-year-old suspect was apprehended a few minutes after the initial emergency call was received. The suspect was located on Fairview Road a few miles south of the location where the shooting occurred.

The victim was transported by Ogemaw County EMS to MidMichigan Medical Center - West Branch and was later transported by helicopter to a hospital in Saginaw for further treatment. Stahl said his condition is unknown at this time.

The Michigan State Police and the West Branch Police Department assisted the sheriff’s department on scene and Stahl said the MSP is assisting his department in the investigation.

Because the investigation is ongoing, no further information is being released at this time.
