Meijer purchases properties near Exit 215

WEST BRANCH — Meijer has bought the three properties it planned to build a store on near Exit 215 in Ogemaw Township.

The sale was recorded in the Ogemaw County Register of Deeds Office Oct. 16.

The company had submitted site plans to the Ogemaw County Planning Commission back in May, to build adjacent to the former Turner’s gas station.

That gas station was recently demolished, as the owner of that property plans to build a new gas station. He previously told the Herald he would build whether Meijer came or not, unless given an offer.

The planned Meijer facility is a smaller footprint for the Michigan-based company and will be approximately 159,000 square feet, including a garden center and a drive-thru pharmacy.

According to the plans, the developed site would include a 3,300-square-foot Meijer convenience store and three outlots for possible development. The overall size of the proposed property, including outlots and undeveloped land is approximately 57.49 acres.

According to Ogemaw County Zoning Administrator Ryan Veeder, Meijer’s next step would be to pull all of the required permits from the building department prior to the start of construction.

No time frame for construction has been given.
