Mills Township event to offer fun and games, services for kids

MILLS TWP. — Sunday will be all about the kids when the Cardinal Optimist Club’s annual Fun in the Sun Family Day returns to Elbow Lake Park for the fourth year July 14.

Event Coordinator and Optimist Club Treasurer/Secretary Marty Elkins said the event is completely free for kids, including games, food and more. She said for the first time the event will include a professional face painter, as well as a few new games. The Home Depot and 4-H will also be hosting crafts for the kids.

Along with 4-H, many community services will be on hand at the event to raise awareness of what they offer. The Northeast Michigan Community Service Agency will be available to sign up kids for Head Start, and the Child Protection Council of Ogemaw County will be offering fingerprinting. Representatives from fire, EMS and police will be attending as well.

The event will run from 1-4 p.m., and a drawing will be held at 3:30 p.m. for a bike giveaway. Several businesses contributed toward the giveaway, Elkins said.

Elkins emphasized that having fun with family is the main thing she hopes people will be able to do.

“It brings the kids together more and it’s a fun day for everyone in our community,” she said.
