New Rose City farmers market to open Aug. 2

Music and Market in the Park to be held Aug. 3

ROSE CITY — Residents and visitors to Rose City have two dates to look forward to, as the new farmers market is opening for its first day Aug. 2 and Music and Market in the Park is scheduled for Aug. 3.

The newly constructed pavilion, on the west side of M-33 across from city hall, is ready to host the farmers market each Friday from 3-8 p.m., and possibly Wednesdays too, according to Clerk Cindy Rosebrugh.

The Herald reported last July that the city had been approved for a $91,300 U.S. Department of Agriculture grant to build the pavilion, which the city matched with $6,000.

She said USDA representative Jackie Morgan, who worked with city through the grant process, came out July 18 to inspect the pavilion and close out the grant.

“She was really impressed; she was really happy to see it,” Rosebrugh said, noting that such a nice farmers market location is not typically seen in small towns.

The market will be managed by Steve and Julie Lisiscki, a local couple who grow their own large garden.

While Rosebrugh said the market might have a slow start, with more vendor sign-ups currently needed, she is hoping it gets busier as the harvest begins.

A grand opening is planned for a future date.

Across the street, more than 20 vendors and six bands will fill Rose City Park Aug. 3 for the Music and Market in the Park.

At the free event, the vendors will be set up from 11 a.m. to at least 3 p.m., and the music will go from 2-10:30 p.m.

The bands include the Donny Hartman Band, a Garth Brooks tribute band, a Rod Stewart tribute band, The Godfreys, GMA 2.0 and Motor City Memories.

“It’s just to bring people in town — have a nice Saturday in the park for the people’s enjoyment,” Rosebrugh said.
