One injured in two-vehicle accident at M-55 and M-33

CHURCHILL TWP — An accident involving two single-occupant vehicles at the intersection of M-55 and M-33 at 6:48 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4 resulted in injuries to one of the drivers.

According to information from the Michigan State Police, the accident occurred as the two vehicles passed through the intersection, one northbound on M-33 and the other westbound on M-55, and collided.

The driver of the northbound vehicle, Michael Campbell, 39, of Haslett, reportedly stated he was traveling 60-65 mph and had a green light, and he was struck by the second vehicle, driven by Karen Messer, 68, of West Branch. However, witnesses at the scene contradicted Campbell’s version of the incident, stating it was Messer who had the right of way.

Messer reportedly stated the last thing she could remember was leaving her house. She was transported to MidMichigan Medical Center in West Branch for treatment of her injuries.
