Ottinger takes plea in Edwards Twp. stabbing case


WEST BRANCH — Christopher Bradley Ottinger, 34, of Alger pled to one count of involuntary manslaughter in 34th Circuit Court Monday, Jan. 13 for the February 2019 stabbing death of 52-year-old Douglas Hotham in Edwards Twp. 

Ottinger was previously charged with second-degree murder as well as a habitual offender- fourth offense notice. Both charges were dismissed following Ottinger’s plea.  

The Herald previously reported Michigan State Police and the Ogemaw County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a stabbing at a home on the 5500 block of Patterson Street in Edwards Twp. on Feb. 18. Hotham died as a result of injuries received from the stabbing. 

Ottinger faces up to five years in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 9:30 a.m.
