Police investigating suspicious death in Mills Township


MILLS TWP. — The Ogemaw County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police are investigating a suspicious death that occurred over the weekend in Mills Township.

According to Sheriff Howie Hanft, around 1 p.m. July 20 a call came into central dispatch about a body that was reportedly found in a fire pit.

Police identified the body of John Hensley, 45, of Prescott. Hanft said the body was located by Hensley’s girlfriend. The cause of death is unknown at this time.

Details about Hensley’s death are limited at this time. Hanft said an autopsy is scheduled for the afternoon of July 22, which should help provide additional information and help determine a cause of death.

The sheriff’s office is being assisted by MSP detectives, the MSP Crime Lab and the MSP fire investigator.
