Reports of power outages in West Branch area

UPDATE: As of 9:30 p.m., most of West Branch appeared to have had power restored. However, with more freezing rain overnight and high winds expected, more outages could occur.

WEST BRANCH — Some West Branch-area residents were reporting power outages Thursday afternoon, according to Consumers Energy.

According to the Consumers Energy Outage Map, approximately 160 people were without power as of 4:30 p.m. Thursday. The outages were likely the result of freezing rain.

Consumers Energy Media Representative Debra Dodd told the Herald earlier in the day that the electric company has already been dealing with outages from the last storm.

“We are in the midst of a huge storm with our company and have 142,000 customers out statewide,” Dodd said. “We’ve had two ice storms come through Mid-Michigan and the west side of Michigan in two days, and while we got about 40,000 customers restored yesterday, we just got hit extremely hard this morning with the second wave of ice.”

An estimated restoration time was not yet available.
