Sancrant signs with Northwood

WEST BRANCH — Ogemaw Heights Senior Nicole Sancrant signed her letter of intent to play softball at Northwood University at the high school April 13.

Sancrant said softball has always been her passion and her mom, Jan, got her started as soon as she started walking. Nicole joined her first team at 5 years old.

In 2017, Sancrant hit the most home runs for the season and was voted most valuable player.

She will be graduating in the top 10 of her class.

Nicole’s dad, Greg, said he is extremely proud of his daughter.

“She put her heart into this and she’s getting what she put into it,” he said. “I’m excited to see her play college ball.”

Sancrant said she instantly loved Northwood on her visit, feeling a sense of community, and she plans to study either financial management or accounting. She said Northwood has a high job placement rate, which also made her want to go.

She advised younger softball players to stay focused as they work their way through the ranks.

“Never give up on your dreams and always put in full effort in practice,” she said.
