Spartan men’s golf sign Tyler Eedy

WEST BRANCH-Tyler Eedy, Ogemaw Heights senior, signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Michigan State University as a member of the men’s golf team on Thursday, Nov. 14 in the Ogemaw Heights library with family and friends in attendance.

“Tyler was identified early in the recruiting process. He has raw natural ability and watching him, you can see he loves to compete. I first saw him as a ninth-grader and since then he has gotten better and better and I know he will continue to improve,” says MSU men’s head golf coach Casey Lubahn. “Tyler is a typical MSU recruit. He will be a member of one of the best teams we’ve had. When he arrives, he will battle for a starting position. Tyler has great character, is highly academic and is from a great family.”

After a golf tournament during his freshman year, MSU coaches gave Eedy a personal tour of campus and the golf facilities. Eedy was impressed with what he saw and felt MSU was a good fit. Knowing he wanted to stay in Michigan, Eedy gave MSU his verbal commitment in August 2017 preceding his sophomore year. His connection with the coaching staff has continued to grow the last three years. “It feels like home,” Eedy stated.

“When I won 11 consecutive Meijer Junior Tour competitions and I was beating everyone,” stated Eedy, that was the realization that golf offered him “something special.”

Travis and Kim Eedy, Tyler’s parents, knew golf was “his sport” years ago during Florida family vacations when “Tyler golfed six hours a day, seven days a week” and they would “wonder when he would get hungry and return to eat.”

Eedy had a goal to be the best golfer he could be and has worked diligently on the course and in the classroom to demonstrate the discipline needed to be an elite Division I college athlete. He has made choices along his journey to reach his goal, perhaps his choices weren’t the most popular and Eedy accepts that. Academics are a priority and his 4.2 GPA proves his work ethic in the classroom.

Ranked the number 2 player in Michigan by National Junior Golf Scoreboard, Tyler finished second at both the 2019 GAM Junior Invitational and the 2019 Randy Wise Junior Open. Tyler plans to study business at MSU.
