Volunteers needed for Summer GAP program


WEST BRANCH — Slots may be filled for the First United Methodist Church’s Summer GAP program, but volunteers are still being sought.

The GAP summer enrichment program runs from July 1 through Aug. 9, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with aftercare until 5:15 p.m. Volunteers would assist the young adult mentors with the 75 children who will be participating, consisting of kids going into first through sixth grade. Those ages 16-18 are especially encouraged to volunteer.

Volunteer support staff roles include greeters and before-care providers to assist kids with breakfast, helpers in the morning sessions, lunchtime assistants, helpers in the afternoon sessions and aftercare providers. Additional staffers are needed for pool days, library days and field trips.

To volunteer, contact GAP Site and Staff Director Linda Hall at, call the church at 989-345-0210 or show up in person at the church during the program.

An open house will also be held Thursday, June 27, from 1:30-3 p.m. at the church for the family of GAP participants to check out the facility and meet the young adult mentors, teen leaders and support staff. The church is located at 2490 State Rd., West Branch.
