Falcon golfers finish third

The Ogemaw Heights Girls Golf team travelled to Maple Creek Golf Course in Shepherd Sept. 8 to play in the second Jack Pine Conference jamboree hosted by Shepherd High School. OHHS finished third out of seven teams.

Charitable service and patriotism

The events in New York City on September 11, 2001, separate what came before and all that has happened since in American society. The front page of the Heralds and Independent all described local residents as “stunned” by the tragedy, when several commercial airplanes were hijacked and crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, causing thousands of casualties.

WPAS seek new superintendent

The board of education for the Whittemore-Prescott Area School District appointed elementary school principal Bryan Crainer as a long term, interim superintendent at their regular meeting Sept. 8.

OHHS Soccer

Ogemaw Heights soccer team played Standish-Sterling Central at home Sept. 8, winning 1-0.

Work underway to maintain roads and rails in West Branch

Local residents have been detouring around the intersection at Wright and 4th streets in West Branch this week, as rail workers replace ties and rails. North 4th remains under construction, with resurfacing underway north of city hall.

Finishing one season and planning for the next

The Country Gardener’s Club is looking to the future. The members discussed ideas for the annual plant sale in May. The sale, which coincides with the Oscoda County Conservation District tree sale, is the only fund raiser that the garden club conducts.
