What consumers can do to support local farmers

A strong agricultural sector is vital to a healthy economy. Turbulence has affected local and national economies in recent years, and the global economy has endured its own ups and downs during that span.

Slow down and pay attention

The rivers which run through our communities were at one time the highways for our region, a way to transport people, bring in supplies and ship out natural resources. Now the rivers are used for pleasure and sport and we get to them by way of highways, which also run through our communities.

Flower power

Flowers have recently planted around the Firemen’s Memorial in West Branch. Nancy Griffin organizes a group of women each year to plant the flowers, which are paid for by the Downtown Development Authority.

Free fishing, ORVing, state park entry: ‘Three Free’ Weekend June 7-8

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources encourages everyone to take advantage of “Three Free” Weekend – Saturday, June 7, and Sunday, June 8. It’s two full days when Michigan residents and out-of-state visitors can grab a fishing rod, ride the off-road trails and visit state parks, boating access sites and other outdoor locations — all free of charge.

Community honors Ogemaw County Historical Museum Curator

Members of the community packed full the Ogemaw County Historical Museum the evening of Wednesday, May 28, to recognize the museum’s curator, Sally Rea, for her hard work and dedication in preserving local history.

Falcon golfers compete at regionals

The Ogemaw Heights boys golf team played in the Division 2, Regional 10 tournament May 27 at The Moor Golf Course at Boyne Highlands, finishing in 11th place out of 19 teams.
