State Rep. Mike Hoadley of Au Gres, was sworn in Jan. 8 for a second term in the Michigan House of Representatives

The Maternity Unit at MyMichigan Medical Center West Branch celebrated its 500th birth on December 31. Baby girl Aurora Jean was born on the last day of the year at 10:43 p.m., weighing 5 pounds 12 ounces, and 19 inches long. Proud parents are Alexis Madigan and Jason Moore of Standish. Aurora is the couple’s second child, joining brother Jason in the family of four.

On Tuesday, January 7, the Falcon Swimmers traveled to Standish to take on the Panthers in dual meet action. Ogemaw won the meet, 83-65.

The first Saturday night of 2025 at Skate Place brought out the youth. Holiday visitors had said their farewells and travelers had returned home. Classes were to resume that Monday.

Last week, Rep. Jack Bergman’s bill, “Gerald’s Law,” was officially signed into law as a part of the Senator Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act, closing a loophole that denies certain terminally ill veterans their VA burial allowance if they do not pass away at a VA facility.
“Help the Sheriff build the best Department in Northern Michigan.” So writes W. Jay Balog in his letter to the editor.

Ogemaw County EMS Director Gary Proctor had been leading the department just under three months when the Herald stopped in for a visit in early January. Coincidentally, that was about how long his brief retirement lasted this past summer.

The Ogemaw Heights High School varsity boys basketball team won a game against visiting Harrison Hornets on Wednesday, Jan. 15, by a final score of 57-37.
