It was hot the day I visited the Ogemaw County Fair last week and I ducked inside an exhibit building to get out of the sun. The best of show display for antiques caught my eye and reminded me of a miniature antique dresser I entered in the Saginaw County Fair back in the 70s. My grandfather helped me restore the dresser, a salesman’s sample, and it won a blue ribbon.
Back to school prep
Superintendent Gail Hughey gave an update on the construction at Ogemaw Heights High School during the Aug. 18 meeting of the West Branch-Rose City Area Schools Board of Education.
Ogemaw County Fair 2025
The 2025 Ogemaw County Fair was held Aug. 11 to 16 at the fairgrounds at 2300 Rifle River Trail, east of West Branch.
Caregiver Corner
The Oscoda County District Library received resources, tools and information for family caregivers from the Region 9 Area Agency on Aging, as did libraries in Arenac, Ogemaw, Alcona, Alpena, Cheboygan, Crawford, Iosco, Montmorency, Otsego, Presque Isle and Roscommon counties.
Band camp ends, but the show goes on

Fair theme celebrates old and new
Ogemaw County Fair 2025 opened Aug. 11 with a flag raising in Freedom Pavilion at the fairgrounds. Ogemaw County veteran John Bennett welcomed visitors and introduced a special guest.

The art fair is for everyone
The 45th Victorian Art Fair takes place this weekend, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9. Admission is free. Please note that pets are not allowed at the art fair.
West Branch prepares for 45th Victorian Art Fair
Artists and craftsmen will set up booths August 9-10 for the 45th Victorian Art Fair at Irons Park in West Branch. The fair is open Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
