MDARD announces opportunity for underserved, value-added, and regional food systems grant program across Michigan

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) is now accepting applications for the latest round underserved, value-added, and regional food systems grant.The Underserved, Value-Added, and Regional Food Systems Grant Program is designed to promote the expansion of value-added agriculture production and processing, help develop food systems, improve healthy food access, and expand underserved business development within the state to enhance Michigan’s food and agriculture industry.These grants will be focused on supporting the state’s agri-food business and farming operations.

West Branch celebrates conclusion of downtown makeover

City of West Branch and MDOT officials and staff gathered with other downtown leaders and community residents to celebrate the conclusion of West Branch’s downtown makeover.The project has entailed resurfacing of the streets and sidewalks downtown and extending several blocks to the east and west.Downtown is again open to vehicle traffic although Houghton Avenue remains closed to the east several blocks before Fairview Street.The portion of Houghton Avenue yet closed and the final surface layer of the street downtown are scheduled to be finished early this month.
