The Santa Train made its annual stop in West Branch Saturday and Santa and Ms. Claus met with children for photos and gift requests.
The Northeast Michigan Arts Council and the Ogemaw Commission on Aging hosted the Arenac Choraleers for a performance of holiday music at Ogemaw Commission on Aging Senior Center Saturday, Dec. 7. The group will perform at Standish-Sterling Central High School at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14.
Ogemaw Heights varsity girls’ bowling team kicked off the season with a win Dec. 2.
“We started like we finished last season,” Coach Mark Pacella said. “We came from behind to beat Sanford Meridian Mustangs 18-12 to begin play in the Jack Pine Conference.”
Sixth graders from Whittemore-Prescott Area Schools joined the Ogemaw County Board of Commissioners last week for a special Kid’s Day meeting, held on Tuesday due to Thanksgiving falling on the board’s usual Thursday. Participants were selected based on exemplary behavior and academic excellence.

The Ogemaw County Correctional Facility began operating in September 2010. In more recent years, the inmate population has fallen and the costs per inmate have risen. Meanwhile, Ogemaw County’s finances became the worst in the state. Something had to give.
American Legion Post 422 offered a free dinner Thanksgiving Day dinner to the community. A group of Hale Honor Students made desserts for the dinner.
