The Surline Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization hosted its seventh annual color run Saturday, June 1. The event took place this year at the Ogemaw County Fairgrounds, which will also be next year’s venue.
A color run is an event in which participants begin with white apparel and pass through stations along the course that transfer colors onto their clothing. For the event at the fairgrounds, runners passed under scaffolding that sprayed water after which volunteers puffed colored powder onto the dampened scramblers.
“This year we had just over 500 participants, very similar to last year’s registration numbers,” said Elizabeth Godbout, Surline Elementary PTO president.
Around 50 volunteers pitched in to set up, put on and clean up after the event. Proceeds from the event will be used for things like bounce houses for back-to-school nights, small holiday gifts, and other funding requests made throughout the year by administration and staff.
“The fairgrounds have invited us back for next year,” said Godbout. “We think it went extremely well being our first year out at the fairgrounds and can’t wait to grow our event.”
