Council, DDA, Planning Commission to hold annual joint meeting
The West Branch City Council agreed to move a joint meeting with the DDA and Planning Commission to the West Branch Police Department at their regular meeting Jan. 20. The joint meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m., Feb. 3.

Ogemaw County Administrator/Controller Tim Dolehanty revealed that the county’s medical examiner could not be found to investigate a recent death in the county at the board of commissioners meeting Jan. 23.
Michigan implements cage-free egg law
Michigan’s ‘Cage-Free Law’ went into effect Jan. 1. Michigan’s Public Act 132 of 2019, mandates all shell eggs sold in the state must come from cage-free housing systems.

Bill honoring U.P. Veteran Gerald Elliot signed into law
Last week, Rep. Jack Bergman’s bill, “Gerald’s Law,” was officially signed into law as a part of the Senator Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act, closing a loophole that denies certain terminally ill veterans their VA burial allowance if they do not pass away at a VA facility.
Commissioners return to chambers
The Ogemaw County Board of Commissioners commemmorated former commissioner Brenda Simmons for her service at their regular meeting Jan. 9. Simmons was recognized for outstanding service during four terms from 2013 to 2020 and most recently in a two-year term from 2022 to 2024.
